BrockWorks, Inc. has been a proud sponsor of the Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tour for nearly three decades, with numerous homes featured throughout the years, including two of the Brock Family's personal residences. This year's tour features the Heller home, which benefits Helping Hands of Franklin County.
The Tour accomplishes this through partnerships with volunteers, charities, businesses and individuals. To date, the Tour has raised nearly $5 million for local charities.
Eight beautiful lakefront homes are opened to the general public for touring on Columbus Day weekend. Uniquely, all Tour homes are accessible by road and by water, with a significant number of residents and visitors traveling from home to home by private or rented boat.
Located in the Park Place subdivision, the Heller home is a Traditional style home with Craftsman influences. This 4,200-sq-ft home has four bedrooms and 4½ baths on three levels and has expansive views up the lake’s Roanoke River channel. The open-concept home features many custom items made from repurposed wood, including fun items from old train cars. conveniently located on both the primary and lower levels. Above the garage is an additional primary suite with a small kitchen and sitting area. The lower level boasts a custom bunk room that sleeps six and a spacious play area. The upper deck includes both screened-in and open areas, and the lower patio has an “outdoor movie screen” and a fire pit area on one end. The walk to the dock is a gentle slope with stepping stones.

Helping Hands of Franklin County’s mission is to provide financial assistance to help the emergency needs of the citizens of Franklin County. Typical emergency needs include electric bill termination or overdue notices, rent or mortgage issues, heating fuel, prescription medication and other emergency needs. In addition to emergency financial assistance they provide budget counseling to their clients and referrals to other appropriate agencies. Their volunteers provide this assistance with care and dignity to each of their clients.

Some 1,200 volunteers assist with the planning, administration and hosting of the SML Charity Home Tour each year.
The event, which can accommodate over 3,000 ticket holders, began in 1991.
Over 40 different 501(c)(3) charities in the region have received funds from the event during the Charity Home Tour’s many years of operation.
